If you do not already have the program "map align" google for it and get it (free). Makes aligning grids easy if the map has a consistent scale across the whole thing.

Never heard of it. MapTool is the go to tool for alligning ANY map. Hand drawn, even painteed maps. MapTool has been used to align some of the most prolific old school hand painted maps that defy being aligned by any other tool.

I would note that MapTool is in fact it's own VTT system.. however, not everybody will want to take the time hand code it. Where everyone WILL want to have it, is for this precise purpose. :)

Respectfully, these maps are extremely difficult to use in an actual VTT environment, and I'd like to know if it's possible to have the cartographer or publisher recreate them.

As a result of an unknown process during their making, each map has a different scale! That is to say, a 10' square on the map grid might be 65 pixels on one map, but as high 97 pixels or as low as 58 pixels on a different map. *Every single map* has a different scale of pixels per square. These scales are not listed anywhere in the files offered.

Worse, several maps I directly measured (Level 3 and Level 4) have a different value of pixels per 10' square on different parts of the same map. It is not possible to merely change the size or pixel density of the maps in Photoshop to correct this problem.

This means that if a regular grid is applied to the maps in a VTT program, player tokens will not move at a regular pace across the map--each individual movement will slightly and additively misalign the...See more

Hi there.
Is there any chance that you could provide cell sizes (ie, width and length in cells for roll20, as well as pixels per cell) ? I cant find it anywhere

How well will these transfer into Roll20? Has anyone tried?

Here are my scale estimates for each of the maps. On maps that had no "1 square = xx feet" I assumes that xx = 10. On maps with a with an odd number of pixels per 10', you will have to decide on whether to round up or down when defining a 5' per square grid. Either way, I am guessing the grid will have to be nudged as the PCs move about the map, to adjust for the cumulative rounding error.

Azure Keep (78p/50')
City Ruins (168p/50')
Level 1 (348p/10')
Level 2 (97p/10')
Level 3 (66p/10')
Level 4 (58p.10')
Level 5 (80p/10')
Level 6 (91p/10')
Level 7 (68p/10')
Level 8 (59p/10')
Level 9a (62p/10')
Level 9b (138p/10')
Level 10 (59p/10')
Sublevel 1 (200p/10')
Sublevel 2 (242p/10')...See more

It is unfortunate that there is no pixel scale given for the maps. Moreover, it appears that the pixel scale is different across the maps. My method for dealing with this is to open each .png file in Gimp and use the Tools/Measure to find the number of pixels along a gird side.

That said, the maps themselves are great. Certainly worth the extra work it will take for me to use them in Fantasy Grounds Unity.

These are literally the reason I sprang on buying the full Arden Vul module. For a variety of reasons, I run all of my games online, and the ability to share high quality maps without spending hours erasing secret doors or otherwise concealing every DM-only object on a dungeon map has been a real pain. I know providing these VTT maps is a step above and beyond for most of the products I've found in the OSR, and it immediately put this module at the top of my to-run list.

I love you guys for making all these map packs! But, am I missing something? These are only the Player maps, which hide so many different rooms and areas. I don't understand how these would be most effective in a VTT when they can't actually explore the secret regions.

The secret region are displayable via the regular maps PDF when/if the PC's discover the secret areas. In other words, these maps are built with the assumption that the GM will display the "normal" maps if the PCs manage to find a secret area.

With all due respect (I love Arden Vul!) this doesn't really make sense in terms of how people play on VTTs. As DM I reveal the map to the players as they explore, so I'd like the secret areas to still be on the map for me to reveal if they're found. Is there any chance we could get maps where the room numbers and other GM-only symbols are removed, but the secret areas are still there?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
