I somehow managed to order the physical copy without the PDF. Is there any way to get a copy after the fact? No worries if not!

Dear Shawn,

are your books available for premium printing? I do have the starforged book by modiphius and I do like the more glossy pages compared to the regular printing here on drivethru.

Thanks for asking. There aren't currently any plans to reprint Ironsworn or Delve with offset printing. I don't think there'd be enough demand to avoid filling my garage with boxes of unsold books ;)

Something to consider for a hypothetical future edition, though. I'm glad you're liking the quality of Starforged!

Thank you for your quick reply. Did you consider a premium print option here on Drivethru? The quality is close to what modiphius does.

Yep, I did give it a try. With the grayscale interior art, the difference was barely noticeable. Paper weight was the same. Did not justify the big price jump. I am sure with color art it would make a bigger difference.

On that note, I am new to your product line, but I know what I like in a physical product, and if that "future edition" ever happens... a nice, Comprehensive edition of Ironsworn, including Delve and whatever potential items never made it as their own product (like whatever Stronghold(?)) was supposed to be as a nice deluxe feature... easy $60 hardcover right there

For the most part, Starforged has its own version of delving/exploration as part of its expedition moves and the various location oracles. So, the Delve moves aren't compatible with (or are supplanted by) Starforged. You might find other aspects of the supplement useful in Starforged, such as the chapter of game options and advice, or some of the included oracles, but I'd probably suggest against purchasing it solely for use with Starforged.

You can check out a free preview of the first two chapters of Delve at the official site: https://www.ironswornrpg.com/product-ironsworn-delve (click on the Free Preview button)

It's not completely compatible to Starforged, but personally I use the Rarity and Threat rules; which are for magic artifacts and background threats, respectively. The latter is kind of like Fronts in Dungeon World where the threat will advance on its own if you do nothing.

On my second session of Ironsworn ever and Delve fixes the problem that threatened the continuation of the campaign. I was miffed at the lack of at least small rewards/advancements/experience/the possibility there of for every session. Even now I cannot reconcile the idea of swearing so many ‘solemn’ vows. The failure system speeds up the trickle of prizes or at least gives me that fun turn at the slot machine to see if I can get more exp. I’m thinking of just using the vows as threads (Mythic GME).

I like using the vows as Mythic threads as well. A note for those who might not know--the Starforged 'sequel' includes more ways to earn exp than Ironsworn (you earn EXP by making discoveries, completing quests, and forming bonds with people, supporting more styles of adventure).

Rules are fantastic! Plan to adapt it to my personal setting. However the hardback print on demand version sucks to high hell. The small size makes it impossible to keep the book open and must crack the binding to open all the way to read properly. Wish I ordered the softbound version, I'll get it cut apart and spiral bound so I can use it during play.

I personally have a slight preference for the paperback for reading and reference, but the hardback will wear a bit better if that's a concern to you.

The interior paper quality is the same between both.

I bought the hard backs because I prefer physical copies and I tend to take a while to read through stuff (especially rules). I have dragged my hard back copies of the Ironsworn core rule book and of Delve all over the place as I was digesting them and I am currently using them to run a game and they have both held up well.

After downloading the free copy of Ironsworn several months ago, I’ve just bought ironsworn and delve Hard cover versions. I thought I’d bought hard cover + pdf of Delve, but i mistakenly ordered hard cover only. Is it possible to get the PDF of Delve without having to make another purchase?

I am probably going to buy this to support Shawn but I do have a question, I understand that the the Ironsworn setting really has no big cities. I even get that doing it that way is a good way to design a solo game but I want to use the system in my world and my world has cities. Some of them in the 10,000 to 20,000 people range. I would want to interact with those people. Maybe I'm overthinking but would that be cumbersome in this system?

As you note, the default assumption with Ironsworn is that there aren't big cities. However, it's not too difficult to change the default assumptions and add them to your game.

There are some fairly simple tweaks you can make to bring this to life, but it's probably a bit much to go over in a post here. In short:

- You probably won't Forge a Bond with cities (they are too big and nebulous), so Forge it instead with specific communities or people within that city
- If you are exploring a city, you can use the Delve mechanics and create a theme and domain to introduce encounters and dangers. There's been some discussion of this on our Discord channel. Please feel free to join if you want to discuss! You can find the link on the official Ironsworn website under in the community section.
- I recently tweeted an alternate version of the Sojourn move that adjusts things slightly for visiting a city. This is also shared on the Discord. Feel free to ping me there and I'll point you...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
