Overview

The Witch is an arcane caster, not wanting to spend a lifetime studing, but unwilling to pledge themselves to another for instant power. Instead, they find thier own shortcuts through alchemy, companionship, and a little help from spirits.

Witches feel most at home in the outdoors. No one to tell them the “proper” way to do magic, or keep them from experimenting because it’s “too dangerous.” This freedom allows them to find new ways to harness the magic in herbs, mimic the talents of natural gifted creatures, and explore the power of a bond between souls. The strongest of these bonds is that between a witch and their familiar. Witches are rarely seen without their familiar, especially in cities and other more “civilized” areas. The small beast that accompanies them provides a constant connection to the wild and the power it has to offer.

A witch’s cauldron is often seen as the source of their power. While this is not essentially accurate, the cast-iron icon is used as a central component for rituals, arcane rights, and of course potion brewing. The focus that a cauldron lends allows a witch put their occult knowledge to better effect, or to store such power for a later use. Witches tend to be very self-reliant, having escaped the modern conveniences of civilization and the people that come with it. A good cauldron can be used for everything from brewing potions to cooking dinner to washing laundry. It’s no wonder the cauldron is nearly as ever-present to the witch as is her familiar.

Sub-Classes

The Witch can join one of a selection of Covens in order to focus their talents to their own liking.

Coven of the Bubbling Brew

Grants abilities to make potions cheaper, stronger, and more often than one would normally be able. These can be used, not only on yourself, but handed out to party members or sold for profit.

Coven of the Wild Mind

Lets you summon larger, strong familiars, making it an alternate choice for those that want a strong pet without being forced into the Ranger class.

Coven of the Blackened Spirit

Curses, hexes, stronger magic thanks to the spirits hidining in shadows. Even sharing your magic with talismans.

Additional coven options are available: More Covens

I am excited to try this class out, that being said, how do the occult points work? Is it based off of Monk ki? Also I noticed that at level 1 no cantrips/spells are known, is the first level supposed to be pure melee (this is how I'm reading it)? Speaking of spells, is the Hedgewitch Spell List supposed to max out at 5th level spells?

The occult points are kind of like ki, but comparing them the sorcerer points might be more accurate since their primary use is to enhance spells. And yes, the spell list caps at 5th level because the Hedgewitch is only a half-caster like the paladin and ranger.

I assume you mean the Spell Slots versus the Prepared Spells column? The witch can increase the level of a spell slot before casting a spell, so I made it possible to prepare spells at a higher level than the slots you currently have.
I am revamping the design of the witch, so that confusing bit will be taken out in the next version, hopefully up by the end of October.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
