D100 Dungeon is a game in which you will steer an adventurer through underground caves and dungeons, looking for lost treasures and completing dangerous quests. With each game your adventurer will gain wealth, recognition and become stronger and more skillful in their pursuits. All you will need to play D100 Dungeon, is a pencil, eraser, a few dice and your imagination.

Your journey begins when you create an adventurer and start performing the dungeon training missions. Once they have been successfully completed your adventurer will be ready to face some greater challenges and begin questing in an endeavour to gain notoriety and wealth, rivalling that of royalty, and who knows one day their greatest exploits might even become stories and songs performed by bards in every tavern throughout the Kingdom.

You will need this book (D100 Dungeon) to use and play all of the other D100 Dungeon books in the series. This is the most current version and is also known by the name D100 Dungeon V3. All of the products listed here on DriveThruRPG are for this version of the game. As there are no plans to update the game to a new version, everything that is being released for D100 Dungeon will be current for years to come.

PLEASE NOTE: The PDF option has been set as not printable.

Looks really interesting and would have been one of the few things I spend money towards on this site, but to charge $15 for a non-printable pdf is just a dick move. Unfortunately a hard pass.

I am interested, but I don't see the necessity in shipping a book halfway around the globe when I might as well just print out a PDF. Alas, you won't let me. Money saved, I guess.

First option is to buy a Watermarked PDF...

Oh, now I see that the PDF is non-printable. Well, that's a wanker move.

I bought the first PDF to try out the game. Later I bought all the books and the D100 app.
When I'm playing I use the PDF for quick access to information. Before I start playing I "find" index. During play I tap what I'm looking for from the index then return to the index when done. Easy peasy.
I use the d100 app to run combat mostly.
I use the books more before play than during play. I really like the PDF more than I thought I would.

Thank you Ann for the comments and for supporting D100 Dungeon.

Is the [E:+50gp] in the first Training Dungeon a typo? I assume it should be [S:+50gp], like the rest of the dungeons?

I was wondering what that meant as well.

I just assumed it was supposed to be S: for success.

I think of E as an Entrance.
We win the money at the beginning otherwise we wouldn't have anything to lose.

Second that. I was actually considering buying it until I saw that. I wanted to take it down and have it printed and bound in a ringed binder and try to recreate some nostalgia. Of course, I could play it online, but it feels like buying a product that prohibits printing is encouraging behavior I don't support.

I have always found spiral bound books never seem to last and pages begin to tear from the binding with use. Do you not like the idea of getting it in softback or hardback?

A non-printable PDF is useless to me.
Customer avatar
Matt B January 27, 2021 10:04 pm UTC
Whether I like the idea of buying a soft or hardback bound version or not (and I generally do)... if I buy a downloadable PDF version I expect to be able to print out some or all of it. Not being able to, for me, makes it pointless. And I feel that removing this option is, quite frankly... rude.

Guess what I won't be buying.

Well, the problem is if you ship it around the world it gets super expensive. Either provide a seller in the EU or make it printable.

"PLEASE NOTE: The PDF option has been set as not printable."

Sadly, as the best alternative/compliment to Four Against Darkness, D100 Dungeon shoots itself in the foot by restricting the pdf.
Your choice is to either 'purchase' a pdf that you can't print anything from, so you must have your tablet or computer there by your side and be ready to constantly flip through pages as you go from one chart to another.

The publisher has generously provided the most important sheets that need to be printed here:
This includes:
Adventure Sheet
Combat Tracking Sheet
Both Dungeon Sheets
The 'Handy Sheet'
Monster Abilities Sheet

Now, here's the thing... With version 2.2, I had no trouble flipping pages. I printed the same pages from it that are provided by the publisher.
However, I also printed a couple extra pages: The Maps chart for quick reference while I'm drawing...See more

That should read "Your choice is to either 'purchase' a pdf that you can't print anything from, so you must have your tablet or computer there by your side and be ready to constantly flip through pages as you go from one chart to another, or buy the more costly POD version."

Somehow I missed that when I edited the post last.

I don't see a bundle option (which is fine). I want to buy the D100 Dungeon books but I'm not sure in what order... Apart from this book, which books come next? I was going to buy this and two or three others. Thanks.

I just bought your rule book in hardcover but I also printed out character sheets and monster reactions and the like. What I don't like is keeping track of time and using maps to play out the game. Could I ignore what I don't like and still enjoy the game? Thanks, Johnathan
Customer avatar
Martin K January 06, 2021 8:28 am UTC
Hi Johnathan. The map making and recording time are important elements of the game and its rules. However, there is nothing stopping you from ignoring whichever rules you dislike. As primarily a solo game there is no conflict in doing this, and I have always encouraged players to tweak the game to suit their style of play, and to improve their enjoyment. Alternatively, if its something that you dislike then perhaps the computer companion on Steam may be something that would interest you. The computer program draws the map and does all the book keeping for you. You can find more details and links for information on D100 Dungeon and related products at There are also a few different products that make tracking the game elements easier too. Like the game tracker available as a pnp or as a 10"x16" Neoprene Mat, you can find details at the aforementioned website also.

How can I verify I'm downloading V3? Is the page count different from 2.2? Latest update shown here is July 2018...
Customer avatar
Martin K October 05, 2020 7:28 am UTC
Hi Glenn, V3 is the only version available here on DriveThruRPG and associated sites. So the version you have downloaded will be V3. V2.2 and below do indeed have a different page count and less content of rules and have never been issued for sale.

Is this system set up purely for use with the separate adventure packages, or can it be readily turned into a multi-player campaign? Also, does d100 Dungeon use character classes? I'm looking for a system that shies away from "classes" and instead allows the players to develop their characters in any way they desire (within sensible limits, of course!).

Oh maaaan. I misunderstood the recent sale price on the hardcover+PDF bundle for this and the companion. :-( [I didn’t realize it was for a limited time] I’ll be keeping a close eye on this and hoping for another sale. I’ve been playing the v2.2 and enjoying it. Looking forward to upgrading.

Martin K August 12, 2020 7:47 am UTC
Hi Dan, the price hasn't changed on the printed books+pdf bundles. The pdf has always remained at the the same discount price (priced in UK Sterling, it may change by a few cents as it's dependence on the exchange rate) when bought with a printed book. The printed books and pdf was on sale independently and as a bundle when it was first released for a week only (a few years ago) and has not been on sale since. Perhaps you was looking at another product other than D100 Dungeon that was on sale.

Hmmm... I thought I'd seen the hardcover+PDF for ~$26 or $27 about 3 weeks ago. The price was in red. Maybe Drivethru was doing a store-wide sale? Thank you for the response; I'll be sure to pick these up soon either way. My v2.2 adventurer needs to join the "modern" era.

I bought the pdf version, because I am from Brazil. Saddly I can't print it. But the game is great. I strongly recommend.

I've played 2.2 and had a great time. For those of you who have played this a decent amount (or Martin if you want to chime in), what are the essentials at first? Is D100 Dungeon v3 enough or do I really need to also get X? I don't want to start and then realize that I should have bought X and now I have to restart...

Thanks for any advice!

Also... can I print the pdf...? (Heehee, sorry, I had to...) :)

I played the Print and Play v2.2 with my son and we loved it!
I ordered and just received the v3 hardcover.
Thanks for making this game. It is a lot of fun!

I really like the game, but the grammar and sentence structures in the rules are very poor for a V3 of the game.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
