Orcs in Tarodun's Tomb [5e]

ADD TO WISHLIST >

A Fifth Edition adventure for first and second level characters.

A sepulchral tomb.

Magical tricks and traps.

Brutish orcs guarding a vast underground treasure.

If that doesn't sound like a first-time fantasy adventure, I don't know what does.

Orcs in Tarodun’s Tomb is an adventure for first time players looking for a quintessential first-time D&D experience: orcs fill the role of the classic fantasy monster, and it takes place in a dungeon filled with challenges, traps, and puzzles that can be solved in a number of ways. The adventure can be finished in a single session, and provides a solid start to a new campaign.

This Fifth Edition adventure is written by Kiel Chenier (ENnie award winner for Blood in the Chocolate), and mapped by Dyson Logos (Waterdeep - Dragon Heist, Circle of Hands, Dyson's Delves, etc). It will work with most fifth edition fantasy campaigns.

I just found my way here to have a look at this short-adventure. But then I happen to look at the price ... honestly, this adventures is an extremely short one-shot without any deeper story to it ... as you say yourself: Orcs guarding a tomb ... the adventure clocks in at just 18 pages ... if you assume some covers, credits and so forth this leaves us with about 14 pages of content including tables, maps and pictures ... all that for a steep $5 ... or now for $4,24 as a "sale" ... for that price I get extensive 50-page adventures from most famous publishers in the business here ... that price just don't seem reasonable in any way.

I wrote an extensive review on this on the Reviews page and in general I agree, the price is a buck and half too high for the actual adventure content. I should have said so there, but anyway, it's a solid piece of work, if containing the usual "why is it there" puzzle. Most groups I've put through this never get to the puzzle anyway; they all insist on plowing straight ahead, and they always TPK.

Trying to ask this question without spoiling the module: is it just me or the "big bad boss" at the end of the module looks VERY VERY dangerous for low-level characters? I'm wondering how they could overcome this obstacle, there's no obvious or even suggested way to do so in the NPC description. Did I miss something?

There is '5e' in the title, are you going to release another version for some other system?

There is no intention to do so at this time. The 5e is there to reduce confusion because most ZERO/barrier products are set to OSR rules sets.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
