Make the content a little more readable by losing the background/page coloring ... otherwise - I'm itching to get this for my phone and point my non-C&C players to get to test out the game.

I clicked on the banner advertising this and other phone .pdfs. I appreciate the format, but there is something I take issue with. I own the traditionally formatted .pdf of this book. Some companies are updating their traditionally formatted .pdfs to include the phone .pdf, which I hope this becomes the norm. I am more than a little miffed by the prospect of being asked to pay for content I already own, albeit in a new format.

Hi Robert,
I can sympathize about paying twice for the same content (it is a pet peeve), but I can also see things from the point-of-view of the Trolls. Someone had to work on this to make it a "Phone PDF." Someone probably spent hours coding in the links for it to work and the price is a way of recouping those costs. This cost should probably be incorporated into future releases, but at least for this first version, I am OK with paying for the increased convenience.
Cheers,
Allan

Allan, I understand your points. Thanks for sharing them. Andrews McMeel Publishing offers a free phone .pdf version of Zweihander if you own the original. They simply added the file for owners. If they can make it work, why not the Trolls? Companies lose money to test new markets. That's the price of doing business. I am hoping the "paying twice for the same content" does not become an industry standard and my comments here are a lame attempt to curtail that practice. Who knows, though, if enough people post, maybe change could come. Troll Lord Games gets my money as I think they are producing great material. I just don't wanna pay for the same stuff twice. Thanks a heap, Bob

I agree with Robert. Having to pay separately for a phone formatted edition of something you already own is ridiculous. Yes it is an additional cost to have to make a version formatted specifically for phones however it should be a selling point of your complete package not another chance to make a sale. Also why is it that the exact same rules cost $6.99 on the phone but the regular "not-phone" pdf costs $20? It's like a mobile game costing $2.99 but then upcharging to $14.99 when it goes to PC or console for the exact same game. All this says is that the game is worth $6.99 not $20 and that buying the regular PDF would be a waste of my money.

Meanwhile there are companies out there that will give me any additional digital formats for free when they update them such as an .epub file or black&white version for printing. Then you are seeing more and more companies offer the PDFs for free when you purchase a physical book so as to not make you choose between convenience and the feeling...See more

I have already paid for the Players Handbook, physically and soft copy multiple times under more than one Kickstarter and direct purchase. It seems unnecessary that I pay yet another time for the content. I love C&C. I know TLG isn't the only company exploring the new format.
Beta->SVHS->LaserDisk->DVD->Blu-Ray->Digital->4K upgrades is a model, and one I am a sucker for, but an Enterprise like TLG shouldn't take a page out of the same playbook.

And I didn't have to pay twice for the ZWEIHANDER GRIM & PERILOUS RPG Phone PDF.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
