Create the Character You Want in this Expansive New Universe

Step into the Carbyne Jungle!

Carbyne Jungle is the new Tabletop RPG created by Nor Cal Mythos Entertainment.

Set thousands of years into a distant future, Carbyne Jungle combines elements of Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Noir, and Horror, into a rich gaming experience. Built on the Tri-Forge Engine, Carbyne Jungle has three styles of gameplay, customizable for beginners through advanced players, so whoever is at the table can jump into the game.  The setting is both in-depth and flexible allowing A GM to dive right into the universe, forge their own world, or anywhere in between. With phenomenal battles, meaningful non-combat conflicts, and an incredibly flexible advancement system, Carbyne Jungle is the game you’ve been waiting for.

Remove the Limits from your Game

What Makes Carbyne Jungle Unique?

NCM took every RPG we loved, tore them down to the bones, and looked at what was a essential for a great gaming experience. We didn’t want to carry an aspect over just because it was traditional, but we also didn’t want to throw out a common game facet just to be different. So we started with a skeleton of what makes a great gaming experience, added some muscle, fashion sense, hardware, topped it off with a half psychotic personality and threw the switch.
The Reknown Galaxy is large enough for every world you can imagine

We built 3 styles of gameplay into our game engine: Basic, Standard, and Advanced… that can all be played simultaneously IN THE SAME GAME. A player joining their first game ever can use a sample character or use the quick character creation options to make a character in under 10 minutes, and then jump into the game.

Levels are replaced with a fluid system. As your character grows, you don’t have to shoe-horn them into a specific mold. After each session, your character will earn one or more advancement points that can be spent to upgrade your character...however you want. Unstoppable Juggernaut? Go for it. Glass Cannon? Sure. Skill based character? Feel free. You decide what you want your character to be.

This Is Carbyne Jungle

The Story

Carbyne Jungle takes place in the distant future of the Spine Empire. The Spine Empire rose from a mostly traditional fantasy world, developed technology, and expanded into the cosmos, becoming a galactic empire.

Several thousand years ago, a cataclysm struck the empire, destroying most of the technology. Most dramatically, The Eye of the Universe, the Gate portal system used by the empire to travel back and forth across the reaches of space, was destroyed, forcing the societies to rebuild in scattered parts of the galaxy.

While reforging civilization, different areas took different paths. The area around the capital planet known as The Metropolis focused on technology, building an advanced civilization built around production, research, and corporate loyalties. On the fringes, the people relied upon the Red Circle, the practitioners of the Old Ways to guide them, creating a society where magic and technology entwined.

With the recent reopening of the Eye of the Universe, the different parts of the empire are reunited, but the thousands of years of separation have caused drastic differences. Efforts are now out to reclaim what was lost, deal with other invading forces, find the source of the original destruction, and reunite the peoples.

Combined Gameplay through the Tri-Forge Engine

Leafroy Sapkins, the River Lord

Introducing new players to a game can be a tough learning curve, especially with complex games. One of the first decisions we had to make was whether we wanted a simple or complex engine, and as most of the gamers we spoke with enjoyed complex systems, we went in that direction. So, we needed a way to eliminate the learning curve. Thus: The Tri-Forge Engine.

We built 3 styles of gameplay into our game engine: Stock, Strategic, and Flip and Fight (starter rules)… that can all be played simultaneously IN THE SAME GAME. A player joining their first game ever can use a sample character or use the quick character creation options to make a character in under 10 minutes, and then jump into the game.

Experienced players can keep using their full characters with all the standard rules, and the newcomer uses the basic rules to play right alongside everyone else. For the first time, a table does not have to sacrifice the style of play they prefer to help their friends get acquanted with RPGs. As players grow more comfortable, characters easily transition to the standard or advanced rules.

The Stock and Strategic rules are built to be modular where table can customize the ruleset to be exactly what their tables want, incorporating some or all of the strategic rules as they see fit. So no matter what, you get to play the game you want.

Setting Options

Carbyne Jungle is a Sci-Fantasy setting that is strongly customizable. While science and magic exist side by side, the world (or worlds rather) are designed to be adjusted as you see fit. Creating planets with no little or no magic for a hard sci-fi setting is simple to do, as would be adjusting to embrace the fantasy aspects of a world. There are no limits to where your tables play.

Metropolis

The center of the reknown galaxy, Metropolis is a city built throughout the remnants of the original inhabited world. Completely urban, and dominated by competing corporations, Metropolis provides opportunities for urban campaigns designed around investigation, espionage, and rebellions.

The Frontiers

Escape the civilization and head out to the frontiers. Explore the distant reaches of the galaxy either for a corporation or on your own, seeking your own path and own adventure, where the only laws are the ones you carry with you.

Customization

While the standard rules embrace an Adventure RPG system, the Core Rulebook also has rules for running settings that embrace Cyberpunk Noir, Cosmic Horror, or Space Warfare. Build contacts as you investigate shady dealings or climb the ranks in the military as your team of operatives complete objectives to turn the tide of the war. Or risk the psychic dismemberments that come from looking into the void and seeing what no mind was ever meant to see. It's your call.

Looks interesting, but the preview doesn't go into any detail on the system, or even give any indications of the rolls, etc, unless I'm missing something?

If you want a good look at the rules systems, take a look at the free version of the game. It's the best preview you can get.

And the setting as well, please! All we know from the description is that it takes place thousands of years in the future and has elements of different genres.

The Tri-Forge engine is 3 customizable rulesets you can use in the game. The Stock rules are the standard rules, about 3.5ish in complexity. The Strategic rules benefit experienced players who want to really be able to build up advantages through planning. The third ruleset is Flip&Fight, a stripped down ruleset using a card system (you can just use a deck of cards or a d12, no need to purchase anything extra) to make it easy to for new players to jump right into a game.

The best part is, you can use all three rulesets in one game.

Here's the page 1 Intro:
The Calamity changed everything. Not much is known of the history before it. The Old Spine Empire had spread from its original home world to conquer tens of thousands of planets. Their civilization flourished with unprecedented power and success yet was nearly destroyed overnight.

The cause of the Calamity is still unclear. Some reports claim sabotage. Others cite invading enemies through the Interstellar Portal Network. Regardless of the cause, the effects were catastrophic. Those who could flee did so leaving behind only those too poor or foolish to escape, and the desperate few intent on stopping it.
In the end, the physical destruction was limited with only the imperial capital planet Shemesh 3 being mostly destroyed along with a large portion of the planet’s solitary moon. The jewel of the Spine Empire was in ruins, leaving only a small sector of the planet remaining. But the true cataclysm was a galaxy spanning wave.
A null-void pulse lashed out...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
