I thought this was just a setting book like the earlier Cypher system books. But no it is a genre book with a ton of information and tools to help you create your own sci fi game. With a setting at the end yes but the meat of the book is a ton of useful stuff. Vehicle combat that works, weapons, gear, armor, vehicles from modern times to super high tech sci fi.

Good stuff and a very good book for those of us who like to world build.

ok well I bought the book at my local FLGS so I well just say here if you already like The Cypher System this is more then worth the tools for any game you already have it can contribute to Numenera and others so easily let alone allow you to make your own Sci fi fun. I am not some one who endorese universal systems. but if you already have any thing from Monte cook games , this is a have too have .

The rules additions are very well done. One thing I really appreciate about Monte Cook Games (regardless of author) is just how clear and well written stuff is... 99% of the time. Every once in a while, you hit a show stopper of a sentence that ties into the rules and then makes you doubt all the choices you made in life.

The setting, while well-written (should go unstated given the pedigree of people who worked on this book, but this is the Internet and people don't read well between the lines...), is surprisingly bland. Granted, you can always turn to Numenera and the Strange for the really off-the-wall stuff (and you should because it's brilliant) the "Revel" (not a great name, gotta be honest) is mostly a lot of 'meh'. However, it is a stellar* example of how hard sci-fi can be worked in the Cypher System.

*I hate puns.

4/5 stars. I didn't put it on the review page (but did rate it!) because this isn't really a comprehensive review, just a bunch of feelings...See more

No disrespect intended whatsoever—I'm sure the setting is really cool—but I cannot be the only one who sees this product's title and immediately thinks, "The floor is lava!"

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
