Map making can be time-consuming and sometimes frustrating for GMs, especially GMs with limited time to begin with. In our new 'GM's Maps' range, we will be providing a range of pre-made maps for you to use in your games.

GM's Map #88: Motel details a large Motel suitable for any country, in which your tired PCs can stop over during their long road trips. Of course, a PCs life is never as simple as everyone else's, now is it?

Included in this product you will find a PDF with a key for the map, several versions of the map (full colour, basic old school with grid and without grid), and a dozen adventure hooks and ideas set in the Motel that you can develop into full adventures.

Sample Adventure Ideas from This Product

2/. Retro Ain't What It Used To Be The PC(s) pull up to a Motel, on the outside, it looks slightly scruffy but still perfectly fine. Scenario 1: Immediately, they notice the interior is 'off' – it's a perfect 50s/60s/70s interior, fresh as if just renovated. Scenario 2: They wake in the night and realise the scruffy, outdated room they checked into is suddenly fresh and clean as if just renovated. The TV/ radio is on, playing out news events of a previous decade. Somehow, the player(s) have wound up in a time slip. The players can all be one group which arrives at the same time or a selection of guests who have all become trapped and have been there for various times.

The GM may make this an SF adventure, a supernatural one, or a plain old inexplicable event.

Suggested for use with The Entropy Effect

3/. You Can Check Out Anytime You Like, but You Can Never Leave

The PCs wake one night in strange surroundings. They seem to be in a motel room but they can't recall how they got here. If they try to leave they find that whenever they get more than a mile away – in any direction – they simply arrive back at the motel. There is no escape.

Worse, something terrible is in there with them. Stalking them around the tiny pocket dimension they seem to be trapped in. Some rooms contain grave horrors. Mutilated bodies of the things previous victims or disturbing art, perhaps.

In fact, the PCs are in a hell-like dimension, trapped as a punishment for heir past misdeeds. Can they somehow atone for their crimes? Or is there an item hidden somewhere in the motel that may be the key to their escape?

4/. The No Tell Motel

The players have successfully completed a heist or other shady enterprise and are convening at an out-of-the-way motel to lie low and divide up their ill-gotten gains.

Unfortunately for them, they have wandered into someone else's shady enterprise and find themselves having to avoid/ negotiate with/ straight up murder some other criminals intent on illegal drugs/ arms deals in the same motel.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
