The 2020 edition of The Microlite20 RPG Collection includes the basic Microlite20 RPG (only 2 pages of actual rules) and over 100 RPGs based on those rules.

New or updated games in the 2020 edition include:

Dark Heritage 2, Ad Astra, Microlite20 Fandom Version, M20 Modular, Cult of Undeath, Microluxe20, Fantasy Hack M20, Microlite74 Swords & Sorcery 2e, Microlite74 3d6 Edition, Microlite78: First Edition Lite 2e, Worlds of Fantasy, Microlite2020, Microlite20 Beginners Players Guide.

What is Microlite20?

Microlite20 is an OGL role-playing game containing character generation, combat and rules for magic, monsters and level advancement. We have ripped the guts out of d20 leaving just the essence of the game. Skills are much simplified, there are no feats and combat is as simple as it gets. The original Microlite20 is a trimmed-down, subminiature version of the Primary Fantasy Tabletop RPG SRD rules that has been designed to be quick and easy to play. The goal was to create a simpler game, but one where all of the resources of Primary Fantasy SRD (monsters, spells, adventures and equipment) could be used without conversion. It was designed for the 3.5 SRD but will work with the 3.0 SRD or even the PF SRD. The rules for character generation, combat, magic and level advancement take up a single sheet of paper, meaning it is perfect for introducing role-playing to new players, gaming one-shot adventures or tailoring into your own game system (and judging by the number of Microlite20 variants available, tailoring Microlite20 into your own game system is very popular).

What is The Microlite20 RPG Collection?

The Microlite20 RPG Collection is the basic Microlite20 game with a huge collection of supplemental rules and variants as well as a large number of games based on the original Microlite20 system. While the original system was designed for fantasy games as are many of the games based on Microlite20 included in this free collection, this collection also includes Microlite20-based science fiction, horror, superhero, cyperpunk, espionage, etc. games. Also included are Microlite20-based versions of popular games from the 1970s and 1980s and Microlite20 versions of 4e and 5e. Finally, there are "large" versions of Microlite20 that include more of the 3.x SRD to make more complete games that while still much smaller that the original are complete enough that one does not have to refer to the SRD to play.

This is the fourth edition of The Microlite20 RPG Collection. The first edition, published in 2010, had about 600 pages. The second edition, published in 2012, had about 1400 pages. The third edition, published in 2017 had just over 2000 pages. This fourth edition has over 2750 pages. It includes revised versions of some games, a number of new Microlite20-based games, and the new Microlite2020 core rules. All games in this collection are under the OGL and the text of most are entirely open game content (with the exception of a few words like authors names). This edition is designed to make it easy to print out just the games you are interested in.

Hello! I want to use Microlite20 RPG to develop a small rpg. Can I use it? I'm new at OGL rules. It's for a video game.

I am so impressed, both by this tome and the entire M20 project. You can pretty much do it all with this. I am not good enough with words to give sufficient praise. Will soon be registering on the forums, and hope to contribute in some way.

The PDF bookmarks are kinda messy; is this intentional? It's hard to find the different games quickly.

The bookmarks are entirely unintentional. They were generated by the software I used to combine all the PDFs. It does a horrible job, but there was no way to turn bookmarks off. To find the games quickly, use the Table of Contents -- each game has a page number next to the name. Just plug that into your PDF reader's "go to page" feature and you'll hop right to the first page of the game in question. In Acrobat (at least the Windows version), all you have to do is put the number in the fill-in-the blank" part of the "_____ / 2768 in the toolbar.

I love the Micro20 materials, outstanding work.
However, the thing that TRULY amazes me is the fact that you put 2768 pages into a single PDF of only 76.4MB!!!
Most publishers to DTR have trouble keeping their files under 1MB per page.
That's called mastering your technology. Awesome!

Thanks for the kind words but I really can't take much credit in the file size department. The Microlite20 games in this compilation are mostly text. It's the huge high quality graphics that really balloon PDF file sizes. That said, this file started out about 130 MB. I ran it through each of the "PDF compress" programs I have and picked the one with the best combination of quality and low file size. In this case, this knocked about 53 MB off the file size. Oddly, I can't say one program is better than another. Which program produces the smallest file varies with the original file.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
