Arms and Armor Compendium

ADD TO WISHLIST >
Suggested Price $3.95

This compendium is an alternative list of arms and armor for the Forbidden Lands RPG. It adds some weapon and armor types, as well as some new features, and rebalances the weapons and armor from the Player's Handbook. I've limited the scope of the technology to the 14th and early 15th centuries in Europe, and tried to interpret how that would translate to the world of the Forbidden Lands.

This document is far from perfect, and I was mostly writing this for my own campaigns, so I've put this up as a "pay what you like" download, but any contributions are greatly appreciated and would motivate further to update this document, and publish others, through the workshop program.

You know why I love the "pay what you want" method?

It means I can download this now and look through it, despite not planning on running a campaign in FL for the foreseeable future, but when I do run it, I can pay for this module if I like it :)

And, since I've bought all your modules for T2K4e so far, I think it's very likely I'll buy this one too when I start playing. But for now, i can just look through the stuff and I have to say it's high quality as always!

The selection in the core rulebook always seemed too stingy to me, so this is a highly welcome addition. I look forward to using it if I start playing the game.

I appreciate that. I would like to use more pay-what-you-want on future projects, but it is frankly disheartening when you spend hundreds of hours on a product only to see that less than half of the people that download it, are actually paying for it (estimated based on number of downloads vs. net sales). It might be that they have never used it in actual play, but if you've read it and appreciated the ideas, maybe throw the author a couple of bucks regardless? We don't pay for our books, video games or cinema tickets retroactively based on whether we read it, played it or actually went to the cinema, right?

I get your point and why you like PWYW, and as a consumer I do to, but I think there are too many consumers that see the PWYW-tag and think "free stuff" and never even consider paying the author, even if they base their entire next campaign on their content. I don't know, I am still conflicted on this issue and am still trying to figure it out.

I am working on a hunting...See more

Honestly, if there was another way to fully preview the item, I'd go for it... maybe a full preview with massive watermarks over the pages or something like that?

At least people would have to live with the annoyance of those.

The 1-3 page previews shown on most products here are usually not enough for me to get a decent opinion on whether or not the product is for me. Sure, you can easily see the overall quality, but you can't really see if you agree with the changed/expanded rules or not.

Like I said, I've paid for all the T2k modules you've made so far.

Turns out I won't be playing a Forgotten Lands campaign any time soon, so now I'm out the full cost of the base game with no real use for it. :/

But I'm looking forward to your hunting module for T2k! My players just ran into a major gold-mine of loot (due to massively lucky rolls on the TwilightLoot table, they now have an M113 APC with a .50 cal, an M151 Jeep and they found two containers full...See more

Why does the rules system tagged for Symbaroum? It's for FbL, right?

Yes this is made for Forbidden Lands. I'm not sure why you see it tagged as Symbaroum, I'll look into it.

It looks like everything (or at least those that I have checked) Forbidden Lands Workshop suddenly has the "Other Systems" and "Symbaroum" tags in the metadata. If you try searching for Forbidden Lands under rules systems in the side bar, nothing shows up. This looks like a database error on the part of drivethrurpg, I'll see if I can report it. Thank you for letting me know.

I appreciate this supplement and the effort put in to produce a very high level of historical accuracy. I might have done a few things a little bit differently like have the great sword have 1 less damage and near distance but that's really just nitpicking and minor differences in opinion. Ditching studded leather for the reinforced leather is done almost precisely as I had planned. Love it! Great product, definitely worth it if you want more realism and variety in your game!

It appears the shield table is incomplete? Neither Buckler nor Tower Shield are on there. Also, on the Materials table, Tower Shield is on there but not Buckler.

Hi, thank you for downloading and checking out this compendium. In these rules the buckler is counted as a melee weapon with the "parrying" feature. As such it is found under the melee weapons table and under melee weapons in the crafting table. The tower shield is in the crafting table, but again it is under these rules not actually counted as a shield, it is condsidered a portable cover. There is no entry for the tower shield in the weapons or shield table, but its weight, cost and rules are described in the appendix on p.24, since it is counted neither as a shield or a weapon in these rules.

I've had very limited time to playtest this because of the pandemic, but I've had concerns raised that the buckler is a bit weak in its current state. It is usually preferable to either pick a small shield or a short sword for your off-hand needs. One of the reasons the buckler was popular in history was that it was a good self defence option, that wouldn't raise to many eyebrowes in public when...See more

Ah, thank you for the clarification and reply. Having a good time with this and appreciate the effort. Been adding a lot to my Foundry VTT campaign, making a few modifications here and there to suit my liking. It's been a big help.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
