Thrown into a world gone mad...

Where the dead won't stay dead...

Where your best friend can become a murderous cannibal in a matter of minutes and won't stop at anything in her quest to hunt you down and eat you...

...your characters must survive the chaotic forces of flesh-eating psychopaths that seek to consume them, and figure out just what the hell is going on - and how they can stop it. To help you, you'll have an arsenal of savage weapons, and maybe some super-special hidden tricks up your sleeves. Better hurry up, though, 'cause the clock's ticking, and when the stroke falls, all hell will break loose - like it hasn't already!

Cannibal Contagion is a game of mental stress and violent survival against hordes of supernatural cannibals. The players use high-stakes playing-card battles to determine the outcomes of their actions, with a heavy focus on pure primal narrative and totally badass action. These pages contain a complete role-playing game, with rules detailing character creation, mechanics for resolution of mass-character conflicts, methods for generating your own custom Contagion effects, guides and advice on how to set up and run games, examples of rules in play, and a slew of quick-draw tables to help you jump right in and play without a moment's notice. Read these rules, grab your friends and a deck of playing cards, and get ready for some zombie-murdering survival comedy (and horror!) adventures.

Author's Note, October 2013: Cannibal Contagion was my first-ever attempt at experiencing the RPG publishing process from beginning to end. I certainly had a lot of fun throughout the year that it took me to get it designed and printed, and also experienced more than a fair share of stress and turmoil. I learned a lot from that endeavor, and continue to learn more as the days go by.

Cannibal Contagion was largely a labor of love, a test of my own patience to see if I could actually get it done. In the years since, I've looked back, and seen many system holes that need filling, and areas which I now believe are a little flawed. Plus, there's a whole mess of extra text here that could be cut. I've begun working on a new, slimmer, revised and updated edition of the game, featuring streamlined presentation, less expository text, and some smoother mechanics in certain of the "wonkier" areas of the original. As such, I've decided to release this original edition of the game as "pay what you want."

I've had a lot of grand memories born from sessions of this game. I hope you do too. If you find something about it that you like, let me know. And likewise, if you have some critical input to share, please do so. - NPC

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
