GeneFunk 2090 Core Rulebook

I wanted to really like this book, but for a setting built entirely around genetic alterations, the options were shockingly limited. Every character idea seemed to be thwarted by either thr necessary options not being available, or options that should have been genetic options, were mechanical upgrades. While this may get resolved someday in a supplement (Shadows of Korea did not), it was very unfortunate nonetheless.

When I originally purchased the book, it arrived with minor cosmetic damage, but also with the far more serious issue of the mapping portions being misprinted where entire lines of the grids were missing entirely. I contacted DriveThru regarding this (with photos), and they were gratious enough to send out a replacement. However, the replacement arrived with the same printing errors. Errors I do not recall seeing in the creator's youtube video where he presented the book. Yet, at this point, I did not feel like pressing the matter further would result in any actual changes to the quality of the printed copy.

I would say, if you can get it somewhere else, do so, but do not purchase the hard cover from DriveThru.

Luminous Echo: The World Compendium (D&D 5e, Anima, Pathfinder Compatible)

Recieved this as part of the kickstarter campaign and, am overall disappointed. The production itself is beautiful (art style, formatting, well written), but offers very little content wise. The end result is more of a "proof of concept" than a useable campaign setting with the all the crunch one comes to expect from a setting book. Only a quarter (if not less) of the creatures are given stats, there are no new races or classes (prestige or otherwise), no stats on weapons or artifacts, no new spells or skills, no maps of any kind (region, local, town and city) outside the single world map...it's basically missing all the cruch when compared to another campaign setting like the Forgotten Realms handbook. One should also not expect to find any campaign material (one shot or otherwise), or even plot hooks. This is especially frustrating when there were at least a dozen pages wasted on nothing but weapon and armor designs.

As it stands, this is not a book that one should expect to be able to use straight "out of the box", as it is less a setting book and more a "story book", that has chosen oddly to leave the reader to do all the "crunchy" work at which point, you might as well just create your own setting especially when this setting appears to offer anything new. I don't know if I can honestly say one way or the other that I regret kickstarting this, but I can say that I hope this isn't the writer's only book. If they did decide to put out a second, more comprehensive campaign book, I would certainly back it.
