Adventures in Wonderland: A Sourcebook for OGL Roleplaying Games

Adventures in Wonderland is a D20 book by Michael J. Varhola, Shane O’Connor, and the Skirmisher Game Development Group. The book covers the world of Alice in Wonderland and other works by Louis Carol. The book is 60 pages long with two pages of ads and 14 pages of color plates. The layout is clean and easy to read, there are numerous line drawings detailing the characters, creatures and situations mentioned in the series. The authors have taken the time to detail how a character could get to Wonderland as well as a description of Wonderland animals and a template for creating your own Being a seasoned (In my opinion)DM I immediately turned to the monster section. The book details creatures like the Bandersnatch, Card People, Wonderland Caterpillar, Cheshire cats, Chess Piece People and more. Most of the monsters checked in at about 4-5 CR with a couple in the double digits and one coming in with a CR Rating of 18 (The Jabberwocky). The monsters were well written up with at least a couple of paragraphs for each one going into powers and how to use them. In all cases the stat blocks seemed correct and I felt confident enough to use then as is. Next part of the book I looked at was the skills, feats, spells and magic items, this is where my players look because they want to see if they can find an edge. The feats, skills, magic items and spells are not necessarily tied to the Wonderland setting and would easily port over to other campaign settings, with few problems.

Where the book shines is in the adventure hooks. I think these would work well to ease the characters into the setting and give them something to do. The adventure hooks are much better than the typical "old man in the corner with a quest." Some of the adventure hooks will take more than just brawn to get the characters through them.

Overall a good buy.

Kos City (Swords of Kos Fantasy Campaign Setting)
Publisher: Skirmisher Publishing

This is a review of Kos City (Swords of Kos fantasy campaign setting.) The product comes with two files, the city book and a color coded map. It's nice to have the map as a separate PDF since I can have them both up at the same time on my computer. The map is color coded with codes for Government, Mercantile, Temple, Artisan and Slum quarters, the map is also keyed to the 44 locations and where they are in the city.

The book itself is robust at 79 pages; there is an introduction and brief explanation about the world. The intro is wrapped up by a table of contents giving the name of the establishment as well as what it is. This is good in case you don't know what the Sign of the Heron is; it gives you a heads up as GM as to what you need to prep. The general layout of the book is good, it's easy to read, line art interspersed with photos breaking up the text.

The book is system less so you could easily pop it into your campaign; each location is given a complete write-up describing the interior and people inhabiting the local. The NPC's have good backgrounds and would easily fit into any other city/campaign. Each location also has a number of character hooks that you can use as a cue for an adventure.

What more would I have liked? This is minor stuff but I would have liked the map key number next to the name of the title of the location, so I could easily glance at the number to find it, additionally I would have liked an alphabetical index so I could find it faster while flipping through it

However the book is well worth its cost and I think it would be a good addition to a GM's library and I recommend it as a buy.

Blood In Space: Boot Camp
Publisher: Epic Worlds, LLC

Blood in Space Boot Camp Blood in Space Boot Camp or BISBC is a Fudge product set in outer space. The product is a free introduction to the writer's universe. The product is a PDF with three pieces of art, one of which is a map.

There are 12 pages to the PDF. Seven of the pages are text and set-up to the game, a map character sheet and record sheet is also included. There is an introduction describing the basic premise of the game and setting up the Galactic Earthlings Union. The text lays out the basic premise for BISBC and introduces the attributes that will be used. This is important with a FUDGE product because the core system doesn't require specific statistics. The stats are used are: Strength, Stamina, Agility, Charisma, Intelligence, Perception and Psionic. Skills and gifts and faults are also discussed as well as the use of FUDGE Points. Basic Character fields are outlined as are a couple of races.

There is an introductory adventure that is briefly outlined, stating the objective as well as the planet and an NPC soldier and a couple of weapons. There is a map and then a character sheet. For an introductory product it is good, there is some information that gives me an idea of what the full product will be. I believe that there needs to be more to "hook" me into buying the product.
